A very authentic blues singer and guitarist who occasionally played harmonica, Edwards grew up in Mississippi and was captured by Alan Lomax in Clarksdale in 1942 for the first 14 selections on this CD. Already distinctive at the age of 27, Edwards was in Chicago during the 1950s but, despite being quite active, he hardly recorded at all until the late '70s. The final 13 selections on this CD are mostly from 1991 and they find Edwards being featured both solo and with Sunnyland Slim and Carey Bell in an excellent quintet, still singing and playing guitar with power. He also tells a few stories about the distant past. As of this writing in 2006, the 91-year-old Honeyboy Edwards, nearly the last link to Robert Johnson and Charley Patton in the 1930s, is still performing at blues festivals. These are vintage recordings, mostly from 1967, made by scholar-producer Pete Welding when Edwards was 51 years old. Edwards' itinerant lifestyle resulted in his missing many opportunities to record, so that this was only the fifth session he'd had in over 30 years in music, performing solo, with an acoustic guitar on eight of the 13 cuts here. Edwards cuts a daunting figure on the guitar, making the strings sing in several voices at once (check out the playing on "Love Me Over Slow"), and his singing is a match for his playing. The eight solo numbers, dating from 1967, feature the music he was most familiar with, including Robert Johnson's "Sweet Home Chicago" and the title track of this collection. The rest date from a March 1964 session on which Edwards shares the spotlight with singer-harpist John Lee Henley. As a bonus, the last track is an interview from his 1967 solo session in which Edwards talks about Robert Johnson and Tommy Johnson, both of whom he knew personally. The background ambient sound does nothing to detract from the worth of the music, which has a wonderful raw quality. ---Bruce Eder, allmusic.com</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="https://yadi.sk/d/GGS2wAz86nvwXA" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/file/jne6dglyko9iivk/DHE-CK64.zip/file" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mediafire</a> <a href="https://ulozto.net/file/ZxCmZ0VCNoih/dhe-ck64-zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">ulozto </a> <a href="http://ge.tt/2K1tES93" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">gett </a> <a href="https://bayfiles.com/J269b6x5pb/DHE-CK64_zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">bayfiles</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> <p><strong>David Honeyboy Edwards - Crawling Kingsnake (1964/1997)</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Blues/DavidHoneboyEdwards/crawling.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. There are precious few elder musicians still alive who were present at the birth of the blues in the Mississippi Delta in the 1930s. Sit and meet 84 year old David Honeyboy Edwards. If you're thinking the music recorded by this octogenarian might sound like the rehashed stories of the elderly, guess again. There's nothing stale or feeble about the blues Honeyboy plays. Whether he played jukes in the 1930s, Maxwell Street in the 1940s, Houston and Memphis in the 1950s, or travels the globe today, Honeyboy continues to play the same original, first generation country blues he's always played. The only difference is here, he shakes 'em on down using today's cutting edge, DVD recording technology. Whether you listen or view Edwards, APO captured exactly what should happen when traditional meets contemporary. Those who know Honeyboy and the musical paths he has traveled would expect nothing less. --- Editorial Reviews</p> <p> </p> <p>This 1999 session finds Honeyboy working his acoustic magic in the company of Madison Slim on harmonica and Jimmy D. Lane, son of the late Jimmy Rogers, on second guitar. Recorded at the Blue Heaven Studios (a converted church) in Salina, Kansas, this is a pretty inspired session with Edwards running through old classics like Charlie Patton's "High Water Everywhere" and "Pony Blues," "Drop Down Mama," "Shake 'Em on Down," "Anna Lee," "Bullfrog Blues," and "Monkey Face Woman." As an added bonus, there's also an interview with this fascinating bluesman, making this session a real keeper. One of his best. ---Cub Coda, allmusic.com</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="https://yadi.sk/d/d0pcFzDUMwzPhA" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/file/zgsmep84p8v6ng2/HnbEdwrds-SEOD00.zip/file" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mediafire</a> <a href="https://ulozto.net/file/8G1bWVd0Y7Z6/hnbedwrds-seod00-zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">ulozto </a> <a href="http://ge.tt/4FYL1S93" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">gett </a> <a href="https://bayfiles.com/l0HeWew9p3/HnbEdwrds-SEOD00_zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">bayfiles</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> <p><strong>Honeyboy Edwards - Shake 'Em On Down (2000)</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Blues/DavidHoneboyEdwards/shakeemondown.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. ---Cub Coda, allmusic.com</p> <p>download (mp3 @320 kbs):</p> <p><a href="https://yadi.sk/d/d0pcFzDUMwzPhA" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">yandex </a> <a href="http://www.mediafire.com/file/zgsmep84p8v6ng2/HnbEdwrds-SEOD00.zip/file" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">mediafire</a> <a href="https://ulozto.net/file/8G1bWVd0Y7Z6/hnbedwrds-seod00-zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">ulozto </a> <a href="http://ge.tt/4FYL1S93" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">gett </a> <a href="https://bayfiles.com/l0HeWew9p3/HnbEdwrds-SEOD00_zip" target="_blank" onclick="window.open(this.href,'newwin','left=27,width=960,height=720,menubar=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,status=1,resizable=1');return false;">bayfiles</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/javascript:history.back();">back</a></p> David Honeyboy Edwards - Roamin' and Ramblin' (2008) 2010-03-12T17:17:02Z 2010-03-12T17:17:02Z http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/en/blues/1355-david-honeboy-edwards/3866-david-honeyboy-edwards-roamin-and-ramblin-2008.html bluesever administration@theblues-thatjazz.com <p><strong>David Honeyboy Edwards - Roamin' and Ramblin' (2008)</strong></p> <p><img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Blues/DavidHoneboyEdwards/roaminandramblin.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed.
