Debutové album Blues z lipového dřeva, které u Supraphonu poprvé vyšlo v roce 1984, nezachytilo kvinteto jenom jako domácí bluesovou legendu, nýbrž rovněž jako jednu z klíčových federálních skupin. Ostatně pouhý výčet jmen všech zúčastněných - Luboš Andršt (el. kytara), Peter Lipa (zpěv), Ondřej Konrád (foukací harmonika), Vladimír "Guma" Kulhánek (basová kytara) a Jaromír Helešic (bicí) - je bez nadsázky zárukou hudebního hodokvasu. ---supraphonline.cz

The Slovak blues singer Peter Lipa delivers very personal interpretations of 16 songs by the Beatles on this album. Taking a cue from Joe Cocker's famous cover version of "With a Little Help from My Friends," the man and his team of arrangers and musicians set off to create the most far-out renditions they could imagine. On that count they surely succeeded -- if you don't pay attention, some songs will just fly by without you recognizing them. In some cases, as in "Every Little Thing" and "I Wanna Be Your Man," the only trace left of the original is the lyrics -- everything else is new, from the tempo and rhythm (ranging from blues-rock and jazz-funk to jazz ballads) up to chord changes and melodies. And that's where danger points its head. Lennon and McCartney's talent as melodists is immeasurable. Is Lipa better? No. That's why, once the novelty factor wears off after a few listens, we're left with weaker songs. But that doesn't mean Beatles in Blue(s) isn't worth your time. If anything else, Lipa's song selection has the merit to jump over the obvious greatest hits of the group and choose instead more obscure songs, perhaps some the singer feels a deeper connection to. And the man does have a seductive voice, free of any accent, gravelly yet flexible and gracious. Highlights include the horn-punched "Day Tripper," "All My Loving" (given a Stéphane Grappelli feel) and "I've Just Seen a Face." --- François Couture, Rovi

Peter Lipa (born May 30, 1943) is a Slovak singer, composer and promoter of jazz, often referred to as the Father of Slovak Jazz. Lipa was born in Prešov, and has mainly worked in Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. His roots are blues, soul, and mainstream classical, and his work ranges from jazz standards to funk and rock.

In 2003, he released an album called Beatles in Blue(s) featuring 16 Beatles songs. His interpretations of these songs are very individualistic as he and his arrangers and musicians aimed at creating the most unusual renditions they could imagine.[3] Some songs, such as "Every Little Thing" and "I Wanna Be Your Man", are recorded so differently from the original versions that only the lyrics remain: in each case, the tempo, rhythm, chord changes and melody are new. --- dev.artistopia.com

Drawing most of his inspiration from blues and jazz, Czech guitarist and composer Lubos Andrst is a versatile musician whose work incorporates the influences of European classical music as well as those of ethnic idiom.

At the beginning of his professional career he found himself facing a crossroads others had passed through before him: he could go his own way, maintaining artistic independence as much as possible or take the easy way out by travelling the more popular road for greater profit in the steady, but less creative, circles of the local pop scene. Luckily for his audience, he chose the first path. Despite difficulties endured in an effort to perform both rock and jazz under the totalitarian regime of his youth, he persevered to follow his heart for more than 30 years, still keeping true to his ideals in support of artistic freedom.Throughout his career he has worked consistently with numerous Czechoslovak jazz and rock icons (Michal Prokop, Martin Kratochvíl, Jan Hrubý, Jiří Stivín, Peter Lipa, Rudolf Dašek, Emil Viklický, Milan Svoboda and many others) and has also collaborated with various notable musicians from abroad, performing on several occasions with world famous bluesman B.B. King, as well as Toto Blanke, Ignatz Netzer, Dana Gillespie, Tadeusz Nalepa, Paul Jones, Katie Webster and Tonya Graves. Lubos Andrst´s guitar mastery is documented over 37 albums, which showcase more than 80 of his original compositions. Currently, he performs primarily with the Luboš Andršt Blues Band, but also with his jazz quartet, the LubosAndrst Group, and Michal Prokop´s projects Friends & Unplugged. Additionally, Lubos authored the musical textbook ‘Jazz, Rock, Blues’, which was published by Supraphon in 1988 and reissued by Muzikus in 1995. He has also authored the educational series ‘Guitar Clinic’ for Czech Television and lectures at various guitar seminars. --- bluestime.wz.cz
