Allegro Animato Polish Radio Orchestra, Warsaw Lukasz Borowicz – conductor

Volume 2 starts with the four-movement Elegiac Symphony which is part Brahmsian-heroic and part Tchaikovskian passionate. There's a Furiant-inflected scherzo which again suggests the pictorial symphonic caste found in Beethoven's Pastoral or the headily whooping Dvořák scherzos. The elegiac third movement moves from funeral cortège (inevitably recalling Elgar 1 or Polonia) to Tchaikovskian fury with a bite of resentment and revenge. The finale is gaunt and scores deep and ragged channels across the firmament before launching a heroic charge. This rises to a victorious hymn. The writing has vitality which is picked up on by an orchestra playing as if possessed by the urgency of discovery. The only tarnish is the closing gesture which is tarred with convention. The writing otherwise has a sufficiency of freshness. The performance has fire to make it well worth your exploration. It is superbly recorded.

The Commemorative Sounds Suite is in seven movements. These very short miniatures traverse nationalist glory, sentimental hymns, sprightly humour, honeyed intimacies, nodding plumes and military pride. The whole thing is over in the space of a concert overture.

The Variations on an Original Theme comprise a theme and seven little variations, each shorter than the movements of Commemorative Sounds. Boredom never enters in. The movements are variously serenely Brahmsian in the manner of the St. Anthony Variations or Academic Festival Overture. At the close there's a bold resolution and staunchly calling brass bring things to a resounding conclusion. --- Rob Barnett, musicweb-international.com

Maybe I'm just getting easy but this symphony had the same refreshing and invigorating impact as our cover item two months ago, Dohnanyi's youthful symphony. Written between 1875-79, it is a response to the failed anti-Czarist January Uprising of 1863 (when you're Polish and you don't have a country, 12 years is like yesterday). Although the notes suggest that a somber, minor-key atmosphere is the dominant element, the cut-and-thrust of the outer movements (the finale ending optimistically with a quotation from the Polish "national anthem") is riveting and vitalizing while the second movement scherzo, in krakowiak rhythm, is a close cousin to Dvorák's and Brahms' national dances and the third movement Elegy is solemn without being despairing. The couplings are short: an 11-minute set of Commemorative Sounds (1904-05) being four popular Polish songs and two other ones of uncertain origin, colorfully orchestrated, and an early (before 1883, possible much before) eight-minute set of variations.--- recordsinternational.com

download (mp3 @320 kbs):

yandex 4shared mega mediafire cloudmailru uplea ge.tt

back

Noskowski - Orchestral Works Vol. 2 (2011)

<img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Noskowski/noskowski2.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed.

The couplings are short: an 11-minute set of Commemorative Sounds (1904-05) being four popular Polish songs and two other ones of uncertain origin, colorfully orchestrated, and an early (before 1883, possible much before) eight-minute set of variations.--- recordsinternational.com

download (mp3 @320 kbs):

yandex 4shared mega mediafire cloudmailru uplea ge.tt

back
Zygmunt Noskowski – Chamber Works 2: String Quartet No.3 etc. (2013) 2016-12-20T15:30:28Z 2016-12-20T15:30:28Z http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/en/classical/5570-noskowski-zygmunt/20851-zygmunt-noskowski--chamber-works-2-string-quartet-no3-etc-2013.html bluelover administration@theblues-thatjazz.com
Zygmunt Noskowski – Chamber Works 2: String Quartet No.3 etc. (2013)

<img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Noskowski/chamber2.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. He also contributed to the emergence of many important Polish institutions. This activity of his ensured him a special place in the history of Polish music. This position was further solidified by his huge achievements in the field of composition. And yet the work of Noskowski was gradually succumbing to oblivion. In fact, the legacy of Noskowski is immeasurably richer. It includes vocal and orchestral works, tens of dances and miniatures for piano, works for a cappella choir, songs, theatre music, and chamber music. Noskowski originally intended the duets for violin and piano, but later transcribed some of them for a small orchestra, a cello, a horn with accompaniment, or a solo piano. These are both dances and other miniatures, in short a typical salon repertoire. The Sonata in A minor holds a special place among the duets: it is the only example of this form within the entire legacy left by Noskowski.

W miejscach granych w dynamice piano czy pianissimo pozwala skrzypaczce prowadzić kantylenę, zaś we fragmentach granych forte podbudowuje przebieg utworów silnym, nośnym dźwiękiem. W sonacie odczułem miejscami pewien niedosyt fortepianowego brzmienia.

download (mp3 @320 kbs):

yandex 4shared mega mediafire zalivalka cloudmailru uplea ge.tt

back

Zygmunt Noskowski – Chamber Works 3 - Works for Violin and Piano (2011)

<img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Noskowski/chamber3.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed.

W miejscach granych w dynamice piano czy pianissimo pozwala skrzypaczce prowadzić kantylenę, zaś we fragmentach granych forte podbudowuje przebieg utworów silnym, nośnym dźwiękiem. W sonacie odczułem miejscami pewien niedosyt fortepianowego brzmienia.

download (mp3 @320 kbs):

yandex 4shared mega mediafire zalivalka cloudmailru uplea ge.tt

back
Zygmunt Noskowski – Piano Works 1 (2008) 2017-01-25T17:28:39Z 2017-01-25T17:28:39Z http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/en/classical/5570-noskowski-zygmunt/21035-zygmunt-noskowski--piano-works-1-2008.html bluesever administration@theblues-thatjazz.com
Zygmunt Noskowski – Piano Works 1 (2008)

<img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Noskowski/piano1.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed. Feeling however that he lacked polish he went to Berlin to study composition. Eventually he returned to Warsaw where he became Professor of Composition as well as a choral and symphonic conductor of repute. Heart disease gradually curtailed his career and he died in 1909.

The first volume of Acte Préalable’s series devoted to him takes in his solo piano music. This, as well as songs and violin music - chamber music in toto in fact - is a particularly useful feature of this label’s exploratory work. None of these works are dated though I would guess that they come from the 1890s. The Impressions are character studies of some imaginative sweep. The first is a wind study called Autumn, with lots of arpeggios and then comes a rather salonised middle section; hints of late Liszt here. The terse outer sections of the second study enclose a puckish and rhythmically vivacious B section, whilst No.3 is a charming salon Dumka.

Of the 3 Pièces Op.35 it’s best to refer the first to the first of the Op.29 Impressions which it somewhat resembles in mood. It’s a song without words really, not really a nature picture. In the Duma there are hints of Chopin but also an individualistic Ballad strength which grows increasingly ripe. Though it’s marked dolente the Valse is actually quite fulsome in this performance by Valentina Seferinova, a Bulgarian pianist now resident in Britain.

These short collections show idiomatic skill and some striking moments. There’s slightly too much hectoring amidst the melancholy of the first of the Op.36 Moments mélodiques and the Gondoliera is a very straight ride indeed - abandon hopes of Reynaldo Hahn and sensuality. Still the third of the set is touchingly done before Noskowski reaches for another seasonal piece - Spring this time - to end the cycle; and it’s duly perky and fresh.

Contes must have been written almost immediately after the earlier cycle and reprises things. There’s lyric ease, a salon Berceau, and a gift for lyricism and charm, if without overmuch depth. The last cycle here is the Op.44 Feuille de trèfle. The first is quite tough and Seferinova sounds a little stretched by its demands. The third and last alternates between Schubertian influence and possibly a touch of Anton Rubinstein.

All these cycles are presented in chronological order, but there’s no great marked stylistic advance - which is not a criticism, merely an observation. The performances are enjoyable and the presentation and recording in the studio of Polish Radio Station S1 not too chilly. ---Jonathan Woolf , musicweb-international.com

download (mp3 @320 kbs):

yandex 4shared mega mediafire uloz.to cloudmailru uplea

back

Zygmunt Noskowski – Piano Works 1 (2008)

<img src="http://www.theblues-thatjazz.com/ObrMuz/Classical/Noskowski/piano1.jpg" border="0" alt="Image could not be displayed.
