Adam Makowicz – piano

This 1977 studio session by pianist Adam Makowicz consists of 12 originals, most of which reflect his extensive background in classical music. The pianist's technique is formidable as he improvises around his themes; though none of them are particularly memorable, he frequently shows his playful side and is obviously influenced by a host of pianists, including Art Tatum and Bill Evans. The romping "Blues No. 1" is a showpiece reminiscent of Tatum, while the Evans-like lyricism is present on the impressionist ballad "Do You Dig Debussy?" Released initially by a Czechoslovakian label in 1978, this session was also at least briefly available as a VWC CD. ---Ken Dryden, allmusic.com
