He also appeared in over 50 films, winning a number of acting accolades including a Golden Globe for Best Actor. His on-screen persona secured his heroic status amongst the working classes of Mexico and his premature death in a plane accident in 1957 brought Mexico to a state of national mourning. In a prolific career he recorded over 300 songs, the first of which was released in 1943. Amongst his most popular recordings are "Amorcito Corazón", "Corazón" and "Maldita Sea Mi Suerte". He also appeared in over 50 films, winning a number of acting accolades including a Golden Globe for Best Actor. His on-screen persona secured his heroic status amongst the working classes of Mexico and his premature death in a plane accident in 1957 brought Mexico to a state of national mourning.
