<p>Jessica Rose James, (born April 12, 1988) better known as Jessie James is an American country-pop singer and songwriter. Her debut album ‘Jessie James’ was released in 2009.</p>
<p>James was introduced to Karla Wallace of independent label Yellow Dog Records at seventeen who helped her with her songwriting and singing. One of her songs, "Gypsy Girl", written with two writers from Yellow Dog had been pitched to American Idol contestant and winner, Carrie Underwood, who put it on hold for her record, made it into the hands of record executive David Massey who brought her to the attention of L.A. Reid. She auditioned for Reid singing her song, "My Cowboy". James soon inked a contract with Mercury Records. Her debut album, Jessie James was released in August 2009, debuting at number twenty-three on the Billboard 200. Its first single, "Wanted" had been released in April and peaked at number forty on the Billboard Hot 100. She later performed in the Middle East with singer Kid Rock and comedian Carlos Mencia for US troops stationed overseas.</p>
<p>In September 2010 she was also featured on My Darkest Days debut album My Darkest Days on the song "Come Undone", a cover version of the Duran Duran song.</p>

<p>Jessie James Decker makes her artistic goal plain within the title for her second album, Southern Girl City Lights: she may be a country girl, but she's attracted to the bright lights of the big city. Such is the seduction of the big town that its pulsating synths and beats wind up overwhelming the country elements, but that's to the album's benefit, as it turns sleek and alluring. Frankly, Decker -- who co-wrote all but four of the album's 12 songs -- doesn't seem as convincing striking a country pose as she does doing stylish hybrids of retro-rock. Decker doesn't limit her vintage styles to the swaying '50s slow dance of "Girl Like Me" or the soulful vamp of "All Filled Up" either. There is a heavy '80s vibe to a good chunk of Southern Girl City Lights, with the new wave peaking on the Maren Morris co-write "Open All Night," and these neon highlights accentuate the exceptionally well-crafted contemporary country they surround. It all adds up to an album that may not quite fit into either the country or pop mainstreams in 2017, but either format would benefit from having Southern Girl City Lights in its rotation. ---Stephen Thomas Erlewine, allmusic.com</p>
