After 25 years in the game, NOFX are still going and are still as bratty as ever, sneering as they tackle their favorite subjects: drinking ("The Quitter," "I Am an Alcoholic," "First Call"), anti-religion ("Best God in Show," "Blasphemy [The Victimless Crime]"), and anti-patriotism ("We Called It America," "Suits and Ladders"). Nothing new there, but along with well-trodden themes of partying, agnosticism, and clever observations about their scene, there's a big departure this time around that comes in the form of "My Orphan Year." Fat Mike is at his most confessional in a rare, sincere, Barbara Walters moment, wherein he opens up his journal to the dark days with remorseful lyrics about the death of his parents. He reveals himself as a true sad-faced clown tormented by inner demons more than a few times on Coaster, admitting, "I didn't try pot 'til I was 21 but now I'm overcompensating" and "My friends are telling me that I need to find a clinic, but I won't, cuz I'm a drug-addicted alcoholic." Life as a pill-popping punk rocker might be taking its toll with age, but when the mood is light, Mike and the group are as funny as ever. Prior to a song about the breakup of Iron Maiden ("Bruce, Eddie, and Paul"), complete with dueling guitar harmonies and a pretty bad Bruce Dickinson impersonation, there's an autobiographical account (probably) of first meeting and talking about Jennifer Tilly with either Tegan or Sara (Mike couldn't tell) of Tegan and Sara, before spooking her severely with talk of drugs and sex ("Creeping Out Sara"). As a whole, it's not one of their best records, considering the size of their discography, but it's not a bad little record. Fans will like it since the band is still shining as a tight unit and hasn't lost a step musically, but at the same time, if shoppers are also considering Backstage Pass, the NOFX tour documentary DVD released around the same time, that packs more bang for the buck in the extras alone. ---Jason Lymangrover, AllMusic Review

After releasing their eleventh studio full-length earlier this year (April 2009), NOFX have not kept the fans waiting with the release of the “Coke the Clown” Ep.The Ep consists of 5 tracks which were written during the “Coaster” sessions but were left out to be released as a sort of intermediate between Coaster and the upcoming full-length.

The albums kicks off with the song “Cokie the Clown” (Shown on the cover, which is actually front man Fat Mike in a coked up clown costume), an fast, typical NOFX anti-sobriety song. Track 2 is “Straight Outta Massachusetts”, which is most probably a song about Fat Mike’s childhood. The next 2 tracks “Fermented and Failing” and “Co-dependence Day” are also typical NOFX songs in terms of structure and lyrics (alcoholism and what-not).

The real shocker of the album is the final track “My Orphan Year”. As if the song wasn’t depressing enough when it was originally released on Coaster, they went ahead and did an acoustic version of it. The song is about Fat Mike’s parents dying back in 2006, and is probably the only NOFX song with a serious mood … although a closer look at the lyrics shows some definite signs of sarcasm… This is NOFX after all! ---Elie Rassi, lebmetal.com

This grouping collects all versions of the "Maximum Rocknroll" compilation album. It was released without the band's consent. "Maximum Rocknroll" was originally released on cassette in 1989 by Mystic Records and again three years later on LP and CD. When the original cassette was released in 1989, it was released under a different title, "E is for Everything", though the track listing was identical to the other formats. "E is for Everything" is currently out of print.

Fat Mike stated that "This was never supposed to be a record. NOFX got popular in the mid 90's so mystic records took both seven inchers and put them out on a cd with a bunch of demo songs. It's a totally sucky record and the artwork totally bites. We had no control over any of it. In fact we didn't know it was coming out until I saw one in a store. If you want to hear a totally crappy fucked album then this is the one for you. Don't say I didn't warn you."

Even though the band claims that "Maximum Rocknroll" was not released with their consent, it's listed on the discography of their website. ---discogs.com

As NOFX careen into their 30th year as a punk rock institution, to say that they know what they're all about is a bit of an understatement. This is a band so self-assured that any opinion or personal revelation, no matter how weird or dark, feels like a regular day at the office, a tradition that holds up on the Stoke Extinguisher maxi-single. Featuring a new single, the titular "Stoke Extinguisher," along with "The Shortest Pier" from the compilation The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute, this feels like the NOFX we all know and love: driving, snotty, and angst-ridden. Along with these two new cuts, the single also collects B-sides from the 7" releases of the singles from 2012's Self Entitled. The big highlight here is "Wore Out the Soles of My Party Boots," which finds Fat Mike not so much lamenting becoming an old punk as much as laying out the realities of it and letting us know that it doesn't bother him all that much. Mixing these kinds of personal revelations with songs about the similarities between cops and dominatrixes is what has made NOFX such an enduring band. They've made a good career out of mixing the tongue-in-cheek with the truth, and Stoke Extinguisher is another in a long line of solid releases from a band that's made drifting between not caring at all and caring too much into an art form. ---Gregory Heaney, AllMusic Review

Punk in Drublic was one of the most crucial records, not only for NOFX's career, but also for the EpiFat years and for being one of those albums (even though it was released on Epitaph) that have that "Fat Wreck sound." And the band achieved the ultimate punk—rock dream with this record. They stuck to their principles and the album went gold after selling over five hundred thousand copies in the United States alone without the help of a major label or MTV and it made it made to the top 20 records on the Billboard charts. Not many bands have done that since and NOFX is still the most successful band that has never been on a major label. Pretty impressive, no? And keep in mind this was when the Internet had nowhere near the popularity it has today.

Clearly the fans see this album as a classic and some of NOFX's best work. I think it is also fair to say that the band believes that to a certain extent as well because they recently announced that they'd be playing Punk in Drublic all the way through at certain shows and if you go see them play shows where they don't do that, the band plays a fair amount of songs from this record. Even the last time I saw them live they played "Linoleum," "Leave it Alone" and "Lori Meyers;" all three of which are classic and phenomenal NOFX songs.

What makes this album great though, is that this was a time where NOFX's songs were a lot more musically complex. Take the song "Perfect Government" for example, there's an awesome guitar solo in the introduction of that song along with very different rhythms and great lyrics like "It's all about the money/ Political power is taken/Protecting the rich, denying the poor." They did it while not being afraid to venture out into other genres like ska/reggae with the song "Reeko" and slow/soft rock with the song "My Heart Is Yearning." They addressed politics with song "Perfect Government," religion with the song "The Brews," and race with the song "Don't Call Me White." And then there some pure kick—ass punk rock tunes like "Linoleum," "Leave it Alone," "Punk Rock Guy (Cause He Does Punk Things)" and "The Cause." with their notorious twisted sense of humor.

NOFX today still have not been on a major label and they have pretty much kept their sound. Granted, I think it's hard to achieve the success the band had with Punk in Drublic, but its arguable that even ten years later when they released The War On Errorism that were still on a hot streak from the Punk in Drublic years. Their songs were still rockin', well put together and funny at times. But fast forward to when the band released Coaster, the songs were getting progressively less detailed and complex. The quality just wasn't there. And the same goes for 2012's Self Entitled. This was not a terrible album, but there were a lot less great songs on it than Punk in Drublic, The War On Errorism or White Trash, Two Heebs, and a Bean. But I haven't lost hope. NOFX is a massively talented band and shouldn't have a problem with writing a new album in the future that will live up to the band's better albums.

What makes a great art piece in any medium is not only the high quality of the work, but also the story behind it. The fact that Punk in Drublic was able to get the success it did without a major label shows that bands just need to write a great album and then let the fans do the rest. Sure, this album's sound and lyrical content is very influential to a lot of punk bands, but it is also a very important example that the punk rock ethos can work if you just stick to the main principles. ---Ricky Frankel, punknews.org

"Punk in drublic" była moją pierwszą własną płytą Nofxa. Do sklepów trafił "Smash" Offspringa, "Dookie" Green Day'a oraz "Let's go" Rancida. /p>

Następną piosenką jest "Don't call me white". Szósta kompozycja to "My heart is yearning". Ósma pozycja "The brews" to prawdziwa perełka, zresztą moją ulubiona. Całkiem nieźle to brzmi, a nawet nadaje wspaniały klimat. Numer trzynasty przypadł fantastycznemu "Jeff wears birkenstocks?" Piosenka w swoim tekście zawiera wiele odniesień do wielkich i słynnych postaci (min. Johnny'ego Rottena). "Happy guy" stanowi utwór opozycyjny do "Punk guy". /p>

"Punk in drublic" według mnie jest błyszczącą perełką wśród nowej fali punk rocka.

Sama wytwórnia mówi o płycie w ten sposób: "Get it or be dick". ---Bigos, rockmetal.pl

"Ever done something you regret while drunk like...recorded a live album?" the press sheet states. As NOFX open the CD and Fat Mike announces, "Oh, shit, we have to go to work," the tone is set. Within five minutes, the president has been insulted and you're told that, if you believe in God, you're wrong. There are also a number of intelligible statements muttered by the drunken band members. By now, you must be wondering, who are these belligerent chaps? Apparently, NOFX is a band from San Francisco. They've released dozens of records since 1983, and five full-lengths since 1995's I Heard They Suck Live. I'm just going to assume from here that you already know them. On November 20, 2007, the band released their second live album, They’ve Actually Gotten Worse Live!. On this go around, the band played a three-night gig at Slims in San Francisco and spliced the results into a tight little package available for home consumption. According to stage banter, the first show was relatively sober, while the latter two grew increasingly sloppy. What results is a twenty-four-track time capsule that Fat Mike and company likely needed to remember what happened on the Slims' stage. There are numerous lost drinks, insulted audience members, political jabs and, yes, even a little music is mixed into the nearly hour-long disc. Throw in an Herb Alpert cover and you've got yourself a good record. If new arrangements are your thing, the band does their "Eight songs in six minutes" shtick, speeding up a couple of slower ones and playing a few of their shortest compilation rarities. The recurring discussions between songs are hilarious and, more or less, segue into the songs appropriately. It has long been my opinion that NOFX can write some great songs. However, they tend to supplement the great ones with a half-dozen mediocre tracks per album. The mixture of their discography that appears on They've Actually Gotten Worse Live! provides a solid blend of their better songs from over the years, cutting out a lot of the filler that keeps me from following them religiously. They intersperse a few ska and reggae songs to mix up the tempo, which helps the flow of the album without detracting from its energy. Not only is this record essential for NOFX fans but also, if you're looking for a good place to start, buying this plus their earlier live record will essentially serve as a greatest hits package with personality (just don’t expect accuracy). ---Loren, scenepointblank.com
