Metal and rock bands that only consist of female musicians are not usual in a male-overcrowded music scene. Seriously, you can almost say that there are at least 80-90% male bands and the rest of the percentage is female bands. The truth is that girl-bands can be just as heavy and ass-kicking as male-bands. It is just that there are a lot fewer women who listen to extreme metal music and therefore they rather keep it to themselves instead of sharing their musical interest to other people (which is a shame). There is a swedish band called Crucified Barbara and they are a band that only consists of females and they really know how to rock and have a real good time! The girls in Crucified Barbara plays a really cocky and hard-hitting mix of heavy metal blended with small amounts of thrash metal influences. This is a fiery chick band and they will take you on a nasty ride through their latest release called Til Death Do us Party!

Crucified Barbara is not a highly recognizable band (yet) but their reputation is getting stronger every day as they are getting more and more attention and promotion. The girls' debut album was unfortunately not one of the most successful ones. Mia's vocal performance was pretty bland and inexperienced, the track and lyric variety was out-dated and not exactly top-notch, the sound production was a bit off and there was a small lack of passion and energy in the music. And people who know their music can tell right away if a band is lacking or possessing the right amount of energy in their music. In their newest album Til Death Do us Party things has thankfully changed. Everything has been incredibly improved, musically, instrumentally, lyrically you name it. The swedish metal hotties are here to give you some real sex-metal action!

Til Death Do Us Party is more than twice as better than In Distortion We Trust. The sound production has been greatly enhanced so all the instruments are extra loud and crunchy, Mia's vocals are stronger and more balanced while the track and lyric variety has been greatly improved. This time it is about revenging old boyfriends, payback and stuff like that just includes a bad attitude and stuff. You could almost compare this album with a new type of whisky. Their debut album was new, young and fresh to the market but nobody wasn't that interested and stayed to the already established brands and the album was left to the unknown. But now when a second album has been released people decided to pay a revisit to see if something has changed and they later realized that this might actually lead to something new and interesting. Til Death Do Us Party is not an album that will instantly make an impression to the listener, it might take some time to really get used to the album or hopefully people will fall in love in this album in a blink of an eye. This album (and band) is highly recommend to people who are interested in metal or rock bands that only consists of young and healthy women. Cricified Barbara is a crew of hot young Swedes who doesn't try to break their own individual boundaries in terms of instrumental or vocal performances and they are not some kind of stupid pretenders. They create music because it’s is cool and fun, and just like Dave Mustaine from Megadeth said once. ''We're not creating music just for a f****ing dollar-sign''. Well, sort of but he said something like that in a metal-documentary some years ago. You will not find a girl band that is hotter or harder than Crucified Barbara. --- Dethtrasher, sputnikmusic.com

Despite their youth, Crucified Barbara's debut, In Distortion We Trust, is obviously the work of a band already brimming with ideas and influences gained over years of hard graft in Sweden's rock & roll trenches. What it lacks is the songwriting maturity to match, resulting in a remarkably solid and occasionally thrilling collection of hard rock and metal, with glimpses of punk, grunge, and Sunset Strip-style glam metal peeking through. Part of the problem is that Crucified Barbara's songs usually live and die by their riffs, which are so ironclad and unforgiving, there's little room for anything resembling a counterpoint or a catchy lick to spice them up. This is especially evident on the title track, "I Need a Cowboy from Hell" and "Going Down" -- both of which suffer from spells of melodically stunted guitars alternately reminiscent of Swedish Alice in Chains wannabes Drain S.T.H., Southern-American nu-metal crew Stuck Mojo, and Stone Temple Pilots at their faux-grungiest. Others simply don't entirely fulfill the promise of their titles (see the suggestive "I Wet Myself") or lack the arranging finesse to back up forcibly clever lyrics like "Rock'n'Roll Bachelor." Then again, the band hits an inspired bulls-eye with these same ingredients on "Play Me Hard (The Bachelor's Guitar)," which makes one wonder what the deal is with these "bachelor" obsessions, but brings us to the "thrill" portions worth mentioning in this album. Chief among them is irresistible first single "Losing the Game" (far and away Crucified Barbara's best song), but the girls also prove they can drop their tough guy routine long enough to get sassy on "Hide 'Em All," and, though she's rarely flashy about it, frontwoman Mia Coldheart knows when to take over a song like "My Heart Is Black" or "Bad Hangover," and give it the necessary oomph of excitement over the cliff. In the end, it's arguably an album-closing cover of Motörhead's "Killed by Death" that best displays where Crucified Barbara want their sound to be, yet they still come off a little under-seasoned and wooden, instead of spontaneously out-of-control. Swedish rockers Crucified Barbara return with their third album, The Midnight Chase, which comes three long years after the release of their last full-length offering, ’Til Death Do Us Party. During the time in between the band have released a DVD (2011), participated in the Eurovision Song Contest (2010), and played alongside bands like In Flames, Backyard Babies, Motörhead, Sepultura and Doro, among others. The album was recorded in Gothenburg with producer Chips Kiesby.

The Midnight Chase’s namesake starts off with a deep, semi-angry guitar sound that blurts short lead licks here and there while the pace is kept by the bottom end and an even keeled vocal that is just dynamic enough to keep your attention. This is one of the best songs on the album as you can really dig into the groove in the same way you might dig into a Warlock or Scorpions classic.

The lead guitar bombast of ‘Shut Your Mouth’ is a highlight for much the same reason, only it gets extra points in my book for the grittier vocal. ‘Rules And Bones’ and ‘If I Hide’ have a more modern sounding feel to them, nodding towards the tradition of the band’s predecessors but fitting in a little better with the current music scene going on around them.

‘Rock Me Like The Devil’ has a little more dynamic spark to it and, in some ways, a heavier feel. It’s also catchy as hell (no pun intended) and my personal favourite track.

‘Count Me In’ is the lone standout and I’m honestly still undecided what I think of it. It’s got a more grandiose feel than the other songs, and I suppose technically it’s a ballad, but it almost seems too important to be relegated to such a stupid category of songs. While I enjoy it for the most part, it takes an otherwise solid rock album and completely disrupts the flow.

While I have heard rumblings of this band here and there, I’m quite surprised that they haven’t crossed my path in the recent past. While not quite as randy as Motörhead or Girlschool, Crucified Barbara take the Doro approach in offering a mix of edgy, hard rock and a bit of class. There isn’t much down and dirty about this album and I kinda like that about it. It may be smooth but what it lacks in gritty edge it more than makes up for with talent.
