Curtis Ray was born in Alabama where he learned to play guitar and piano at a very early age His teacher was Taylor Lewis, Taylor was an accomplished versatile musician who played most instruments.

Ray Curtis formed his own band at an early age. The band successfully played locally. The members of the band where : Patsy Thomkin (piano), Mary Lions (vocal), Bertha Lee Oliver (vocal) and Sam Bailey (guitar).

Curtis later moved to Chicago,ILL. Where he worked for many night clubs. One of the bands he worked with was Kaing Kolac, Curtis says his greatest thrill was playing for Mayor Jane Byrne’s Summerfest. He played at universities and street corners and was well accepted.

Ray Curtis is a master of blues, gospel, rock and country western. Curtis has one of the greatest voices of this century. He plays and sings (Music from his heart). His own style

Ray also teaches voice at Chicago City Wide College, his style of teaching is also loved.

Ray Curtis has played in places like Clubs Deliss, Blue Flame, the Mayor’s press conference on Channels 7 and 9 and many others.

Curtis has also played from coast to coast including Canada. He’s played throughout Chicagoland with such people as Jump Jackson, Lonnie Brooks and Jimmy Johnson’s band, his best friends.

He has also played with Big Walter, Carey Bell (two of the best harmonica players), Ben Branch Orchestra (at The Roberts 500 Room), Bobby Bland, Lefty Bates, Calhoon, Von Freeman Jazz Band and the great late Sam Cook .
